6005 1935 Leamington Spa

6005 1935 Leamington Spa

An early 1935 image of 6005, " King George II " waiting at Leamington Spa on the Paddington to Wolverhampton main line, this engine spending virtually the whole of its working life as a Stafford Road locomotive apart from its initial three years when it as at Old Oak Common from 1927 to 1930.
Clear to see here is the original design of rounded casing over the inside valve chest and the first design of the inside valve spindle covers fitted to the first twenty " Kings ".
The rounded casings were to remain in being until about the very late ' forties, whilst a few of those early " Kings " retained the original valve spindle covers until withdrawal in 1962.
