Peter Kerslake says "6016 at this time underwent an Intermediate Overhaul at Swindon from early January until mid February 1939. The fully lined out outside cylinder casing and polished inside valve covers show up well, a reminder of Great Western Railway days, together with the rounded inside valve casing which in my view looked so pleasing but which must have provided a very poor foothold for shed staff and firemen standing on it, especially in the wet."
