6000 1977-06-07 Hereford Bulmers Railway Centre

With an entry date into service of 29 June 1927 it was fitting that " King George V " should have that event commemorated fifty years later, and this splendid photograph shows the engine with its special Headboard recognising 6000's fifty years in service.
The authorities had given clearance for 6000 to work a " one off " Enthusiasts' Special between Hereford and Newport using stock from the Severn Valley Railway and so shortly after the date of this view the engine headed the " Great Western Venturer " between Newport and Shrewsbury on 3 July 1977.
Much has been set out over the passing years as to Bulmers' involvement in 6000's preservation and return to steam but a few important dates were that following withdawal from service in December 1962 6000 languished at Swindon for six years before eventually being removed from the Stock Shed there on 9 August 1968. It was towed to Newport early the following morning for a return to working order by A.R.Adams and Son at the nearby workshops of The United Wagon Company and being officially handed over to Bulmers on 13 November 1968.
