6000 1980s Chester

6000 1980s Chester

Peter Kerslake says "Despite some fairly thorough research I have not been able to identify this particular Enthusiasts' Special.
What is certain, however, is that on 4 October 1980 "King George V" worked the "Deeside Venturer" Special to Chester, the engine being the first of the class to work into Chester across the River Dee viaduct with its weight restriction.
I do not think, however, that this is that particular working as there is no headboard in place and the stock is not as shown in published photographs.
6000 had undergone a seven year examination and overhaul of its boiler in late 1979 and returned to traffic in early October 1980 repainted by Messrs. Walker and Williams of Bridgnorth.
