6010 1964-08-16 Swindon Works

We are the opinion that this and several pictures were all taken on the occasion of the Warwickshire Railway Society's Swindon and Eastleigh Railtour.

Peter Kerslake adds "A former stalwart of Laira Motive Power Depot, having spent thirty years of its working life there, 6010 King Charles I was reallocated to Old Oak Common in April 1959 when the diesels began to take over the West of England main line duties. It was one of the eight Kings transferred to Cardiff Canton in 1961. How much use 6010 was to Canton is unclear and it is recorded as being in Canton Workshops in March 1962 and in Newport's Ebbw Junction Workshops two months later. 6010 was one of the four Kings condemned direct from Canton together with 6010, 6023 and 6024 all withdrawn in June 1962".
