6014 1961 near Beaconsfield
This view shows 6014 with its Wolverhanpton line Reporting Number and its frame being carried on the little bracket affixed to the leading face of the inside cylinder block, that bracket having been carried by this engine since its short lived " Streamlined " days with the Great Western, it not being possible at that time to attach the frame in its more usual position on the smokebox door due to the " Bullet Nose " attachment part of that short lived experiment.
Old habits die hard, and even though at the date of this view the frame could have been on the smokebox door it has been put on the unique little bracket instead, as it often was.
6014 was the last of the blue liveried " Kings " until a Heavy Overhaul at Swindon in January 1954, following which it appeared in new green colours and was reallocated from its previous home at Plymouth's Laira to Wolverhampton Stafford Road in order to take part in " Alfloc "water softening tests with additional equipment fitted whilst at Swindon, used by the I.C.I. technicians riding on the footplate during such tests.
Seventeen " Kings " were later fitted with water softening equipment following 6014's tests.
