6007 1961-05-13 Gerrards Cross

On a Birkenhead-Paddington express
A lovely shot of 6007, "King William III", a former Old Oak Common engine for very many years past before transfer to Wolverhampton Stafford Road in late 1959 and seen here on a lovely day in a splendid setting and in fine condition on the Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury line.
With the introduction of the Diesels to the West of England main line in the late 'fifties the "Kings", ousted from working between Plymouth and Paddington, were rostered on the Birmingham line for their remaining years.
Withdrawn in September 1963 this engine was disposed of by Cox and Danks at Langley Green.
