6008 1958-09-03 Exeter St Davids

GWR King 4-6-0 No 6008 King James II approaches Exeter St.Davids with the down 'Royal Duchy' on September 3, 1958.

Peter kerslake says "Laira's 6008 'King James II' looks well turned out here as it heads the 1: 30 p.m. from Paddington to Plymouth, the 'Royal Duchy', due into Plymouth at 6:25 p.m, the crossing keeper here at Exeter St. Davids Red Cow crossing at his usual spot.
6008 was the twelfth 'King' to receive new front frames and replacement inside cylinder block, with just two more so treated afterwards, 6008 being in Swindon Works from the 8th. April until the 11th. July 1957, thirteen weeks in total.
That leading coach looks interesting, as it is a former GWR Conish Riviera Express coach, contrasting with the rake of chocolate and cream BR Mk1s."
