6018 1962-08 Wolverhampton Low Level

Two spotters chat with the crew as they admire ‘King’No.6018 King Henry VI in August 1962 after its arrival at Wolverhampton Low Level from Paddington with the original ‘Inter-City’ which had been introduced in October 1953. This engine was restored to service in 1963, after the class had all been withdrawn at the end 1962, to work the Stephenson Locomotive Society’s ‘Farewell to the Kings Tour’ on 28th April 1963 from Birmingham to Swindon and back.

Ed Purcell thinks this is the up service ready to depart. He says " The wall on the right separated the platform lines from the goods as I recall. I am not 100% sure but have a strong impression as I often stood here."
