6000 1956-01-28 Westbury

On the cut-off with the Down Cornish Riviera. Formerly allocated to Bristol Bath Road up until 1954 6000 was transferred from there to Old Oak Common following overhaul at Swindon and thereafter joined that shed's other' Kings' on principal workings such as seen here between Paddington and Plymouth. Whilst at Bristol and prior to this transfer, 6000 had worked the'West to North' expresses through the Severn Tunnel between Bristol and Shrewsbury and was that Depot's only member of the class to be allocated there at that time. This is a splendid picture depicting 6000 in full cry heading to Plymouth having left Paddington at 10.30.a.m. on the down' Riviera'. The photographer has done well as 6000 is clearly not wasting any time here !
