6008 1958c Dawlish
One of Laira's finest in the shape of 6008 King James II' was a regular choice by Laira's Running Foremen for the Up ' Cornish Riviera', which it will work from Plymouth non-stop to Paddington except for a halt outside Newton Abbot station to drop off the pilot engine. 6008 will doubtless work the down' Riviera' back home the following day, a round trip of some five hundred miles. 6008 had received the new front frames and replacement inside cylinder block duing an overhaul at Swindon Works, such substantial work being made necessary when cracked frames were discovered in a number of the class, but not all the' Kings were so modified. Note, this shot was taken with the train running under Black Bridge (some know it as Rockstone Bridge) at Dawlish.
