46248 City of Leeds under repair in Crewe Works during a Light Intermediate from 6th May to 9th June 1950. It had been repainted in BR lined black during its previous overhaul completed in March 1949. At Crewe Works all scheduled overhauls for Pacifics took place on Belt 6; the total working time allowed for a scheduled General or Intermediate overhaul was 102 hours 40 minutes.
Peter Kerslake says "What a superb portrait of the boys at Crewe tackling the overhaul of 46248, four hard at it whilst a much younger fifth poses for the cameraman, but perhaps he's an apprentice!"
