WPR 20 1970-02-20 Methil West
In this view WPR No. 20 is busy shunting wagons in the yard at Methil whilst making up a trainload of coal brought into the exchange sidings on 20th February 1970. It was quite normal to see locomotives of BR, NCB and WPR ownership working together at this location. The picture was taken from inside the BR Methil West signalbox but closeby was another smaller yard box (Bell’s Box) which was operated by WPR staff. Both boxes were in contact by radio to enable smooth operations within the yard and in addition, several of the local fleet of NCB engines were also provided with inter-communicating VHF radios. The tall smoking chimney in the background was a well known local landmark in Leven which could be seen from many miles distant.
