44803 is the motive power for this movement back to Leicester MPD.David J Hayes notes that during the late 1960s, Class 27s could be found working on the Midland Main Line in the Wellingborough area on iron concentrate trains, which were loaded at Higham Ferrers (up until 1966, the loading point had been at Irthlingborough). I believe the Higham Ferrers branch line closed in November 1969. The loading of the mineral (a ferruginous gravel by-product of the sand and gravel quarrying operations of the Nene Valley) was temporarily transferred to Twywell until a more permanent loading facility was established at Wellingborough from where such trains ran to steelworks in Lancashire, North Staffordshire, the West Midlands and North Wales.
