Peter Kerslake says "Comparing this image with others of mine I would very strongly suggest that this is one of Old Oak Common's Roundhouses so distinctive with its massive smoke exractor chutes and general layout of the supporting structures.
4954 " Plaish Hall " shown here was built at Swindon in August of 1929 coupled to this Collett designed 3500 tender, the locomotive being virtually new in this 1930's portrait.
Early members of the class emerging from Swindon in late 1928 and early 1929 were initially allocated to Plymouth's Laira and to Penzance Motive Power Depots, but later years saw the increasing fleet of "Halls" spread widely throughout the Great Western network, the whole class passing into B.R. ownership except 4911 "Bowden Hall" which was destroyed in an Air Raid at Keyham station at Devonport during the wartime raids targeting the nearby Naval Dockyards.
Later years had 4954 allocated to Didcot."
