3417 1936-10-18 Swindon Works B Shop

Great Western Railway Dean '3300' class 4-4-0 No. 3417 'Lord Mildmay of Flete'. Built at Swindon in June 1906 and withdrawn in April 1948. Francis Bingham Mildmay (1861-1947) was a Director of the GWR and was thus honoured in the name of 3417, though the traveling public would probably be none the wiser! Incidentally, the Flete estate is in Devon. It was scenes like this in October 1936 at Swindon Works 'B' shop, that made works visits such a thrill.
