80039 1952 Bournemouth shed

80039 1952 Bournemouth shed

Newly built in June 1952, BR Standard 2-6-4T No 80039 was allocated to Bletchley (1E) but is seen here in the company of Urie ‘Arthur’ No 30749 ‘Iseult’ at Bournemouth. No 80039 has not been fitted with a shedplate and will not even have been sent to Bletchley yet.
Having been built at Brighton I would guess it has arrived at Bournemouth on an (ambitious) running-in turn. It served on three Regions during its career, being allocated to 1E during the 1950s but was later transferred to Exmouth Junction and finally Penzance. Withdrawn in January 1966 - an existence of less than 10 years.
