90400 1950s Doncaster
The canopies over the up and down main platforms at Doncaster had been erected in 1940 but were removed in the late 1950s. This photograph clearly shows the 20 columns which supported each canopy as Mexborough’s WD No 90400 heads for home circa 1955 with a Class H mixed freight. The Grand Theatre is still there today but has lost its old style lettering and is hemmed in on all sides by modern buildings and a busy main road.
