Peter Kerslake adds "A water stop for the Beattie tanks on the return from the china clay dries at Wenford Bridge was a necessity as their tanks held just 550 gallons. The supply at Pencarrow came from a spring on higher ground and was piped across at engine level by means of the gantry. Care was needed to stop at the right spot especially as the load could be the maximum of twenty empty 13T wagons and 30586 was the most difficult of the three to replenish as its tanks were of a different design than 30585 and 30587 so the crews were often faced with a lengthy delay on the homeward run to Wadebridge."
