92220 1962-05-30 Pengam Junction

9F 2-10-0 No 92220 Evening Star is about to join the South Wales main line at Pengam Junction with a Regent oil train from Tidal Sidings, coming off the Roath Docks branch with the 6.10pm to Soho Pool (Birmingham) on May 30, 1962.

Peter Kerslake says "Just a few months before it was seconded to Bath Green Park M.P.D. to work the last 'Pines Express' duties over the Somerset and Dorset on the 8th. September of that year 'Evening Star' has been turned out looking its best by Canton's cleaners but they always did a splendid job anyway!
Following its spell on the Somerset and Dorset 92220 went to Cardiff East Dock as by the end of that month Canton had closed and its allocation was moved across to East Dock.
Not a happy move for 92220 as it was damaged in a collision there, a convenient excuse fo it being condemned, but thankfully it escaped reaching the breakers' torches and was held at Severn tunnel Junction M.P.D. from where it was saved for posterity."
