92241 1960-08-06 Paddington
Certainly worth capturing on film , and having concentrated the attention of the young enthusiasts , Standard Class Nine number 92241 makes an unexpected sight arriving at Paddington on a clearly heavily loaded express, the 10.40am from Minehead, in the height of the Summer Season of 1960 .Use of these locomotives on express passenger duties on the Western Region was not unheard of , but certainly not a frequent occurance and accounts tell that they were well capable of undertaking such workings which were invaraibly performed on Saturdays in the Summer Services .I am not sure whether this particular train ran via Bristol as a number of the Minehead to Paddington services took that longer route to the Capital in order to allow returning holidaymakers from Minehead and the North Devon resorts to take connecting services from Temple Meads to the Midlands and the far North of England.92241 was one of the final batch of the class , constructed at Crewe between May and December of 1958 and all destined for the Western Region
