92203 1960s Where?
Off OOC 1960-10 to 1963-03 This doesn't look much like South Wales or Radyr in the Welsh valleys to me, and below its layer of grime 92203 has a 81A shedplate in position which is Old Oak Common so I suggest that this location might possibly be much nearer the Capital ? There maybe a branch line curving off above the smovebox.
Built at Swindon in April of 1959 and allocated to the Western Region 92203 was destined to work in later years on the North Eastern Region , working the last iron ore train to Shotton Steelworks from Birkenhead in late 1967 . Now preserved and on the North Norfolk Railway 92203's future has been made secure thanks to the late David Shepherd who purchased the engine upon its withdrawal in 1967. Built in April of 1959 at Swindon Works , 92203 was allocated from new to Bristol St . Philip's Marsh Depot and following successful trials conducted in March the following year with her sister engine 92204 , four Standard 9F's , namely 92203 , 92204 , 92205 and 92206 were subsequently in June 1960 allocated to Bath Motive Power Depot . The intention of using these powerful locomotives on the heavily loaded through passenger workings over the Somerset and Dorset line was in order to reduce the high level of Double Heading , especially during that year's Summer Services , and 92203 was still on the Somerset during the summer of 1962 . In later years and at the time of her withdrawal in November , 1967 92203 was shedded at Birkenhead , from where she was purchased by the late David Shepherd and initially stored at the Longmoor Military Railway . A subsequent move to the newly formed East Somerset Heritage Railway at Cranmore has now recently been followed by 92203 heading to the North Norfolk Railway.
