Peter Kerslake adds " All ten of the 9F's built from 1955 with the Italian design of Franco Crosti boilers suffered from exhaust steam and smoke getting into the footplates and cabs and this view shows that weakness.
Allocated from new to Wellingborough depot the locomotives were converted into the more conventional 9F design beginning with 92026 in September 1959, a three year exercise".
