92079 1960s Bromsgrove

92079 1960s Bromsgrove

An interesting shot of 9F no. 92079 on the watering and coaling facility on the up side and just south of Bromsgrove station, this engine being the first of a few of the class to work the Lickey when it replaced 58100 Big Bertha upon its withdrawal in 1956 . 58100's massive headlamp hasn't as yet been affixed to 92079, but it did acquire it later. There was a rigid system operating at Bromsgrove to ensure that all the banking engines, together with their crews, did their fair share of duties, and that the engines were ready to go as and when required by Northbound workings to assist them on the two miles up to Blackwell Equally , the signalmen up at Blackwell had to make sure that the bankers were permitted to run back down the grade without too much delay.
