Departing Washwood Heath Down Sidings towards Saltley station, passing under the former LNWR Aston to Stechford line, No.92029 was converted from Crosti boiler to standard in August 1960. Its front footplate looks somewhat bent! Ed Purcell recalls This was a wonderful place for train watching. You could get really close to the line and see the start of banking of Camp Hill goods trains (often with 2 3Fs)as well as the speedier passengers along the main line. It was not uncommon to see an ER loco coming through as well. Mainly freight was the staple fare with 3Fs and 4Fs abounding. The caprotti Crabs were often seen here as well. Not many trains passed along the Aston to Stechford line overhead except on Sundays when the WCML was diverted along here. Then it was glorious. We knew this area as 'Grassy Banks' - ironic or what?
