92221 1964-05-16 York Holgate
For some reason many southbound departures from York by BR Riddles '9F' 2-10-0s seem to feature somehat excessive smoke effects. They make dramatic images, but were not usually appreciated by those who lived alongside the railway. Even more so if the clean washing had just been hung out to dry! With a mixed freight in tow, 92221 leaves a trail of black exhaust in May 1964 as it passes under the Holgate Road bridge immediately south of the station. It was built at Crewe in May 1958 and withdrawn in May 1965.
