44996, 44977 1961 Crianlarich

A classic Crianlarich scene with the heavy afternoon combined Mallaig/Fort William train taking water at the conveniently placed water cranes. The train engine is Eastfield’s No 44996 which is piloted by No 44977 of Fort William. The crews face a long grinding climb to the summit of Glen Douglas when they get these coaches on the move. The summer of 1961 was the last occasion that steam power was used on these trains.
