2916 1938-08-04 Edinburgh Princes Street Gardens

LNER Gresley 'V1' class 2-6-2 Tank No. 2916. Built at Doncaster in June 1931, rebuilt to class 'V3' in May 1960 and withdrawn in December 1962 as BR No. 67616.

The footbridges across the Princes Street Gardens on the approaches to Edinburgh Waverley offer a wonderful view of the comings and goings at a large and busy station. In August 1938, a six coach 'local' is departing with 2916 at the helm. The Scottish National Gallery sits atop 'The Mound' above the tunnel.
