42525 1950s Pitsea

One of the 3-cylinder variants of Stanier’s 2-6-4Ts, No 42525, sets off from Pitsea in the 1950s. This class of 37 locomotives (42500-36) worked exclusively on the ex-LT&SR lines, enabling fast starts from the many stations on routes much used by London office workers living in Essex. Despite their specialised nature (maybe because of it) these engines were early casualties in BR days, all 37 (built 1934) being withdrawn in 1961/62.
