The three-cylinder variant of the Stanier 2-6-4T were all confined to the ex-London Tilbury & Southend line until it closed at the end of 1962, but several of them were noted at Wellingborough in 1959 and 1960, including 42525 and 42535 on 4th September 1960. The Engine History Card of the former records it as undergoing a HI repair at Derby completed at the end of the month and awaiting works for the last three weeks of the previous month. No.42535 was admitted to Derby on 6th September for a Light Intermediate overhaul, so both engines must have been held at Wellingborough waiting for space at Derby.
