65834 1966-10-08 Blythe Cambois

Ex-North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'J27' class 0-6-0 No. 65834. Built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in June 1909 as NER No. 1060 and withdrawn in August 1967. At this exact viewpoint, little has changed over 50 years later. Spin on your heels and it's a very different story. It's October 1966 and 65834 has just passed the level crossing between distant Cambois and is making for West Sleekburn. The last workings of pre-grouping locos were what had drawn me as seventeen year old to Northumberland in my dad's (borrowed) Ford Cortina. He never found out!
