65789 1960s Bedlington South

65789 1960s Bedlington South

Ex-North Eastern Railway W.Worsdell 'J27' class 0-6-0 No. 65789. Built at Darlington in June 1906 as NER No. 938 and withdrawn in July 1967.

Passing an interested onlooker at Bedlington South in Northumberland, 65789 does pretty much what it had always been doing for the previous six decades. The J27s were simple, straightforward no nonsense freight locomotives and (deservedly) most survived to be amongst the last pre-grouping engines serving in Britain.
