65789 1967-04-27 South Blyth MPD

Ex-North Eastern Raillway Worsdell 'J27' class 0-6-0 No. 65789. Built at Darlington in June 1906 as NER No. 938 and withdrawn in July 1967. As any contemporary visitor to ex-North Eastern Railway MPDs will recall, investment in their maintenance was either non-existent or minimal. They were dirty, unkempt and often downright dangerous. Such places to railway enthusiasts were magnets, reeking of Dickensian atmosphere and gloriously photogenic. 65879 is in its 61st year in April 1967 at South Blyth MPD. It won't make a 62nd, but it will make a good photograph!
