10000 1951

Now without its LMS lettering following repairs completed at the end of March 1951 and showing its mixed traffic capability.

A common problem encountered by a number of Diesel designs in their years in service centred round the capability of the steam boilers necessary for the train heating systems to produce sufficient steam when the locomotives were rostered to passenger duties , particularly in the Winter months , and the two Midland Diesels 10000 and 10001 both suffered in this respect .
The Western Region were having similar problems , and their prototype Gas Turbine 18000 was relegated to freight duties for a while as a result , whilst in the Winter of 1949 both 10000 and 10001 were similarly confined to freight workings due to steam boiler problems although by the Summer of the following year the pair were both back on express passenger duties.
Perhaps this fine view has 10000 on its freight working during that period in time ?
