10000 1948 Derby
Britain's first main line diesel, LMS No.10000 was officially presented to the press at Derby Works in December 1947. After several weeks of proving trials it entered service on the Midland main line in February 1948. The locomotive is taking fuel from the pipe draped across the tracks during 1948 in an area known as Klondyke Sidings, within the Locomotive Works, near to where the Diesel Test House was erected in later years.
