Peter Kerslake says "Exmouth Junction shed's 31844 in the late afternoon sunshine on Saturday 21st May 1956 waiting to take the Okehampton line round the Northern fringe of Dartmoor. I must confess to not being a Southern Region enthusiast in my younger days, but on that day I enjoyed a "Southern Day Out" with my fellow enthusiasts, travelling via the Southern line across Dartmoor from Plymouth to Exeter (although we did return home on Western metals later from St. Davids by a "proper " train) Following a visit to Lyme Regis and Exmouth Junction shed the evening light from the west was such that a number of really good pictures were obtained, this being one of them."
