Peter Kerslake says "The first of its class, 1900 was built in March 1900 and was the forerunner of a total of 121 locomotives built over 23 years. It has the ornate G.E.R. crest below the nameplate,a brass numberplate and the original oil carrying tender with which the engine was coupled until converted to burn coal rather than oil in 1910."
