These are the famous 'Crimpsall Shops' in Doncaster Works (a/k/a 'The Plant'). The photograph is undated but is probably in the 1910s. With not a hard hat nor 'hi-viz' vest in sight, there are at least 45 workmen and 10 Ivatt locomotives visible in this remarkable view. Ivatt 'C1' class 4-4-2 No. 1401 and an unidentified Ivatt 'Long Tom' 0-8-0 are seen on the left. The 35-ton overhead electric crane was installed in 1901 by Craven Bros. Ltd. of Manchester.
