60108 1955c Kings Cross

Peter Kerslake says: "One of my better efforts at Kings Cross from summer 1955 as A3 Gay Crusader waits to leave on a Sunday afternoon express to Newcastle. 60108 had been transferred from the Great Central shed at Neasden in July for the summer services, returning there in October.

Of interest is the white paint just visible on the locomotive's bogie side frames, applied to highlight any cracks or fractures which might occur . This was the resulting precautionary action taken following derailment of "W1" 60700 at Peterborough on 1st September 1955, the accident having been caused by a bogie failure."
