6006 1953c Paddington-ROneg-PK-228
My picture of Stafford Road's 6006 , quot; King George I quot; has been taken quot; across the tracks quot; from platform one at Paddington and has the locomotive backing out from an earlier arrival from Wolverhampton and now about to cross the network of tracks and points to gain entry to Ranelagh yard.br/ Ranelagh was situated on the departure side just outside Paddington to the left of this view and provided a stabling point for engines which were not required to go out to Old Oak Common following arrival at Paddington , but which could be turned , oiled and watered and quot; looked over quot; by their respective footplate crews prior to working a return duty , probably back home from where they had come .br/ This working arrangement was applied in particular to locomotives working up from Bristol and Wolverhampton as well as those coming up to the Capital from Cardiff as they would be expected to have sufficient coal for such a return duty , and 6006 clearly has plenty here in reserve in its tender !br/ It did not apply to locomotives working up from the Westcountry , in view of the longer distances involved.
