Despite the coal in her tender 6000 quot; King George V quot; was officially out of service at the date of this image , having been officially withdrawn a few days earlier on the 3rd . or 4th . December , 1962 .br/ This picture shows 6000 within Swindon's Running Shed. She was later mover to the Stock Shed where she remained for a considerable period of time whilst her future was under consideration , remaining there alone and virtually abandoned for several years with no access track left in position until restoration and preservation plans were eventually agreed . Note that although her bell and all plates are still in position the two cabside copy medallions have been removed , doubtless for safekeeping.br/ br/I have to correct my earlier comment as this is not the Works Stock Shed as I said in error but the Running Shed at the adjacent Swindon Motive Power Depot.br/ Followng withdrawal in December , 1962 quot; King George V quot; remained in the open at Swindon Works , its condition deteriorating until a brief move to Stratford in London pending abortive plans for its display at Clapham Transport Museum , but it was back at Swindon Works by 1964 and it was from then until 9th . August , 1968 that it languished within the Works Stock Shed whilst its future was decided
