18000 1950 London Paddington

18000 1950 London Paddington

Gas Turbine No.18000 pollutes the air as it is about to leave Paddington with the 3.30pm express for Plymouth when new in 1950.

Peter Kerslake adds "18000 attracts the attention of a group of onlookers, both civilians and railway employees, getting a close-up of this revolutionary new locomotive. It was due into North Road station at 8 p.m and the following day will return on the to Paddington. These rosters usually meant a down run on Mondays and Wednesdays, with the corresponding return on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Fridays being a 'filling In" day taking 18000 to Bristol and back to Paddington".
