Ex-LNER Gresley 'J39' class 0-6-0 No. 64851. Built at Darlington in Mar. 1934 as LNER No. 1468 and withdrawn in Dec. 1962. Gresley's 'J38' and 'J39' 0-6-0s are somewhat unsung heroes, perhaps because they were never 'glamour' classes and often worked in the midst of areas of heavy industry. Solid and workmanlike they were excellent machines often pressed into passenger train use. 64851 is seen in the 1960s at the rear of Sunderland South Dock MPD.
