5086 1949-06-04 Bristol Temple Meads

GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 5086 Viscount Horne enters Bristol Temple Meads with a Penzance/Kingswear to Wolverhampton express on June 4, 1949.

Peter Kerslake says "With the elegant Bath Road bridge and the houses at Totterdown in the background 5086 "Viscount Horne" runs past Bath Road M.P.D. on the far left and into Temple Meads, heading in from the west.
This early image shows the original round topped casing to the inside valve chest on 5086, the engine later spending much of its time allocated to Worcester depot where it was maintained in a cleaner condition than seen here.
Rebuilt from a "Star" 5086 was an early casualty, ending its days in November 1958, a number of the rebuilds suffering from failures of the main frames."
