4073 1961-06-04 Kensington

Pickfords Scammell 6-wheel tractor No M1833 UXC 619 cautiously turns into Kensington Church Street from Nottinghill Gate conveying GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 4073 Caerphilly Castle to the Science Museum on June 4, 1961.

Peter Kerslake says "This view shows just how well 4073 had been restored to its former Great Western livery by he boys at Swindon following its withdrawal from service in May of 1960 from its final home shed at Cardiff Canton.
Now heading for many years on display at the London Science Museum "Caerphilly Castle" had been an Old Oak Common based engine for much of its earlier working life but had been shedded at Bristol from July of 1950 before going to Cardiff in early 1957 and whilst at Bristol had often appeared at Plymouth on passenger and fitted perishables and parcels workings during those seven years."
