Castle 4-6-0 No 4080 Powderham Castle inside Old Oak Common shed c1925.

Peter Kerslake says "4080 "Powderham Castle" entered service in March of 1924, allocated from new to Old Oak Common with twenty five of her newly constructed sisters and primarily intended for use on the West of England passenger duties down to Newton Abbot and Plymouth and was recorded as running the highest mileage of any of her class before being withdrawn in August of 1964.
The massive smoke extractor chutes confirm this location as being one of Old Oak's Roundhouses and the classic lines of the "Castle" in her original form are shown to advantage in this fine portrait.
During her working years 4080 spent time running from Cardiff Canton and then Cardiff East Dock when Canton closed to steam in September of 1962 , also being shedded at Southall but finishing up at her original Old Oak Common home some forty years from her initial spell there. "
