5084 1955-07-30 Cardiff General

GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 5084 Reading Abbey with ECS on the up through road at Cardiff General on 30 July 1955.

Peter Kerslake says "Rebuilt in April of 1937 and renumbered 5084 "Reading Abbey" had originally been "Star" 4064, built in December 1922 and bearing that same name.
Although dreadful in appearance the Davies and Mechanical Lubricator on the smokebox side enhanced the performance and reliability of those few "Castles" so treated and 5084 survived until July of 1962, its final home being at Old Oak Common."
