GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 4037 The SouthWales Borderers passes Burlescombe with the 8.17am Carmarthen-Penzance on 3 September 1960.
Peter Kerslake adds: Rebuilt from Star 4037 Queen Phillipa in June 1926, it was renamed in 1937 spending time at Old Oak Common but later a favourite at Newton Abbot, well maintained there and invariably looking its best. When moved to Exeter depot in July 1962 it lost one of its regimental crests and ending its days in September that year after achieving the highest mileage for any Castle, over two million miles.
