GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 4073 Caerphilly Castle waits to leave Cardiff General with the Crewe mail train on May 23, 1958.

Peter Kerslake says "Transferred to Cardiff Canton from Bristol Bath Road in the same month as this photograph and following transfer 4073 Caerphilly Castle is ready to work through to Shrewsbury on the Crewe bound mail train which includes the Travelling Post Office at its head. Condemned in May 1960 with almost two million miles to its credit 4073 was stored at Swindon before being cosmetically restored and is now preserved."
