GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 5069 Isambard Kingdom Brunel approaches Bittaford Platform with the 7.30am Penzance to Manchester on July 6, 1955.

Peter Kerslake says "With one more coach in its formation than was usually permitted for an unassisted Castle running between Plymouth and Newton Abbot. The neat Reporting Number was applied by a stencil kept at Laira depot for this purpose.More coaches will be added at Newton Abbot, the train will divide at Crewe with portions for Liverpool and Manchester and one coach, probably the one at the rear, will be worked from Crewe to Glasgow on the Mid Day Scot."
